35 Cebu City communities have enlisted the help of entrepreneurship mentors

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) successfully inaugurated an entrepreneurial mentorship program for barangays here on Friday (BBEMP).

The CCCI is working with Famcor Franchise Management and Executive Development Corp. and the municipal government on the project.

BBEMP’s long-term aim, according to CCCI president Felix Taguiam, is to improve the city’s local economy by advising micro, small, and medium businesses (MSMEs) on how to recover and survive.

According to Taguiam, if necessary, the project will reboot and reformat companies in order to recover and rebuild in a better position in the wake of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama, Atty. Raymond Alvin Garcia, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod budget committee; Liga ng Barangay president Franklyn Ong, and CCCI officers led by Taguiam, immediate past president and BBEMP champion Virgilio Espeleta, vice president for business development and BBEMP core team leader Jay Yuvallos, and vice president for CCCI officers led by Taguiam, immediate past president and BBEMP champion

Cebu City authorities, representatives from 35 barangays, CCCI trustees, executives from the departments of Trade and Industry, Agriculture, and Science and Technology, the SB Corp., and BBEMP mentors and mentees were among the 120 people who attended the program launch.

This week, CCCI and Famcor Franchise launched the BBEMP Batch 1 online class module 1 on entrepreneurial mentality in the face of pandemic reality.

The mentorship session is being led by Leonora Salvane, CCCI trustee and vice president, and chief operating officer of GT Cosmetics.

Batch 1 is made up of 30 multi-sectoral business entrepreneurs (12 men and 18 women) from 24 barangays.

Salvane, a rags-to-riches Cebuano entrepreneur, spoke with her mentees about the difficulties her firm has faced and how her staff fought together to develop the company even during the Covid-19 epidemic, according to Taguiam.

Entrepreneurs will be able to make new friends, listen to each other’s experiences, and create a new community as a result of the mentorship, which will allow them to draw inspiration and support from one another while under the supervision of CCCI business experts.

The program’s short-term specific objectives, according to Taguiam, are to provide a platform for existing entrepreneurs to learn from and be inspired by the mentors’ entrepreneurial journeys while pursuing personal goals; guide participants in adopting smart business strategies that respond to the challenges of the “new normal” business environment; and channel capacity building.

Participants in the target program are still being registered.

MSMEs, displaced employees, and OFWs who are interested in starting a company may register on the BBEMP Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BBEMP.

They may also contact the BBEMP Secretariat of the CCCI.
