Mt. Samat’s communications network will be improved thanks to a tourism business zone

With the launch of its network transformation program on September 28, 2021, the Mt. Samat Flagship Tourism Enterprise Zone (FTEZ) announced intentions to enhance comprehensive communications services at the Shrine of Valor in the ancient mountain here.

The new telecommunication infrastructure projects will be implemented in collaboration with the provincial government of Bataan, the municipality of Pilar, the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology, according to Mt. Samat FTEZ administrator Francis Theodore Initorio in an interview (DICT).

The Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor was officially designated as an FTEZ on Feb. 27, 2017, by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, in accordance with the national government’s mandate to promote the sustainable development of tourist spots in the country, particularly cultural and heritage sites (TIEZA).

It was also the product of a collaboration between the TIEZA, Bataan’s provincial administration, Pilar’s municipal government, and the PVAO.

“In the midst of the epidemic, the Shrine of Valor’s secure and open area enticed visitors to visit the historical monument.” Once the circumstances permit us to reopen the site to visitors, the Mt. Samat FTEZ, together with its partners and stakeholders, would want to offer quicker connection in the Shrine,” Initorio stated following a meeting of stakeholders.

The network upgrade initiative involves the installation of a Globe Telecom cell site at the shrine, free Wi-Fi provided by the DICT, and data signal augmentation using Smart Communications boosters.

According to Initorio, the building of a new cell site is part of Globe Telecom’s PHP1-billion investment in Bataan, as well as its collaboration with the province government. Globe plans to build 74 additional cell sites in the province, including the Mt. Samat tower.

Globe also had a series of talks and consultations with the Mt. Samat FTEZ and PVAO to formalize the cooperation, he added.

The Mt. Samat FTEZ and PVAO are in the process of formalizing their cooperation with Smart Communications to provide signal boosters throughout the tourist zone.

According to Initorio, the DICT recently accepted the Mt. Samat FTEZ’s proposal to offer free Wi-Fi at the Shrine of Valor, which will complement Globe and Smart’s initiative in the region.

The Mt. Samat FTEZ’s network improvement initiative seeks to offer better experiences to visitors visiting the shrine and to strengthen the tourism zone’s social media marketing activities, according to Initorio.
