The Philippine Hotel Owners Association (PHOA) applauded the government’s decision to remove staycation restrictions in Metro Manila after the area was put under a more relaxed Alert Level 3 from October 16 to October 31.

PHOA Executive Director Benito Bengzon said in a statement that the loosening of restrictions is good news for the hotel business and would help the industry recoup income lost during the harsh lockdowns in August owing to a spike in the Delta coronavirus strain.

“We are confident that the National Capital Region’s lowered alert level would result in increased demand among hotel visitors in the fourth quarter of 2021, boosting the establishments’ profits,” Bengzon added.

“On behalf of all PHOA members, we pledge our support for the government’s efforts to relaunch the tourist sector in a safe and stable manner,” he said.

PHOA also expects that the government will continue to take steps to balance the country’s health and economy, according to Bengzon.

“Not just in the hotel industry, but also in other business sectors,” he added, “this will pave the path for a sustainable economic recovery.”

Guests of all ages are welcome to check into approved hotels across Metro Manila for a staycation, but those who have not been vaccinated must present a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test done no more than 48 hours before to check-in.

Only certified hotels with a certificate of authorization to operate for staycation (CAOS) and government-issued safety seal certification will be permitted to welcome staycation visitors, according to the Department of Tourism.
