BARMM will get 1.7 million tons of rice from Japan.

As part of its commitment to strengthening food security in the region, the Japanese government is delivering approximately 1,788 tons of Japanese rice worth JPY350 million (about PHP154.9 million) to thousands of Filipino families in the Bangsamoro.

The World Food Program (WFP) Philippines program is expected to benefit farming and fishing households in the region, as well as retired soldiers and indigenous peoples.

“Over 1,788 tons of Japanese rice will be distributed to 9,887 farmers and fishermen in Bangsamoro in the near future! May this food aid, in collaboration with the World Food Programme in the Philippines, help to meet people’s nutritional requirements while also advancing food security, peace, and development in the region “Kazuhiko Koshikawa, the Japanese ambassador to the Philippines, made the announcement on Thursday.

During a ceremony at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Koshikawa and WFP Philippines Country Director Brenda Barton signed the grant agreement.

The Japanese rice will be treated with iron prior to distribution to enhance the targeted population’s food and nutrition needs, according to the Embassy.

“The WFP’s technical assistance to the target communities will reinforce and aid in the restoration of their livelihoods. The World Food Programme (WFP) will work with the administration of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to undertake this project “It was also added.

Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., DFA Acting Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, and BARMM Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform Deputy Minister Ammal Solaiman were present for the signing.
