Siargao Island’s tourism will benefit from a new complex

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go believes the new Siargao Island Sports Tourism Complex (SISTC) will help the island’s tourism industry and economic recovery.

On Nov. 7, Go attended the inauguration of SISTC and other major projects on Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and other significant authorities.

“Masaya ako sa pagbubukas ng Siargao Sports and Tourism Complex dahil ito po ay isa sa maraming proyekto ng Duterte Administration na makakatulong sa ating ekonomiya at pag-unlad ng bansa (I’m glad with the opening of the Siargao [Island] Sports and Tourism Complex since it

He added that the PHP630.2 million sports and tourism complex will allow local sportsmen to polish their abilities directly on their home turf, which is regarded as one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions.

With its first-class facilities and amenities, the SISTC in Dapa town can accommodate a total of 1,632 people. It also has the capacity to host a variety of national and international sporting and tourism events.

Basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts, a student-athlete dormitory, a rubberized sports oval, a soccer field, a swimming pool, the two-floor, six-classroom Siargao Sports High School, and a conference center are all part of the 6.3-hectare complex.

He repeated Duterte’s request to the local governments on Siargao Island to protect and maintain the island’s natural beauty so that future generations of Filipinos can enjoy it as well.

The facility also intends to motivate young athletes to enhance their athletic talents and skills, according to Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Sports.

Go also mentioned that continuing infrastructure development will enhance the country’s economic recovery, finally providing a comfortable and sustainable existence for the people in the countryside, as part of his vow to continue the beneficial improvements began by the Duterte Administration.

“I’m also certain that sa pagbubukas ng SISTC, marami ang mabibigyan ng trabaho. Magbubukas ng maraming oportunidad para sa mga nasa isla at buong rehiyon (I am also confident that with the opening of SISTC, more people would be offered work.) It will provide individuals on the island and throughout the region with greater opportunities),” Go added.

Aside from SISTC, Duterte also announced the opening of the PHP434 million Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge Three-Point Bridge System, which is part of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ Build, Build, Build initiative.

“By improving the mobility and accessibility of people, commodities, and services, the construction of additional roads and bridges is critical to our country’s economic development,” Duterte stated.

Francisco Jose Matugas II, Governor Francisco Matugas, Dapa Mayor Elizabeth Matugas, Surigao City Mayor Ernesto Matugas Jr., Burgos Mayor Emmanuel Arcena, Claver Mayor Georgia Gokiangkee, and Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar were among those who attended the event.

Secretary Roger Mercado’s representative, Public Works Undersecretary Eugenio Pipo Jr., Assistant Secretary Ador Canlas of the Regional Operations in Mindanao, Regional Director Pol Delos Santos, and Assistant Director Nomer Canlas of Regional Office 13, and Surigao del Norte 1st District engineer Alex Ramos were also present.
