Local governments are being pushed to allow consumers to choose their preferred Covid-19 vaccine brand.

Local government units (LGUs) should allow consumers to choose their preferred Covid-19 vaccination brand for a booster dose, according to a party-list lawmaker.

Representative Mike Defensor of the Anakalusugan Party-list said the LGUs should make it clear on their registration websites which vaccines are available for the Covid-19 booster dosage.

He stated that the Department of Health (DOH) has issued rules on mixing and matching primary and booster vaccines and that local governments should follow the DOH’s recommendations and be transparent in their registration process.

He cited the situation of Quezon City’s Vax Easy registration system, which does not identify which vaccine brand is available at which vaccination location.

“All it reveals is the inoculation centers and the number of spots still available,” he added, adding that the registrant is left to guess which booster to choose.

He stated that constituents are concerned that if they do not like the vaccine when they get to their preferred immunization place, they will just waste their time by going home.

According to the DOH mix-and-match guidelines, those who have had their primary doses can choose Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna as their booster, according to Defensor.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19, stated the Philippines is “relatively” tardy in delivering booster doses against Covid-19.

According to the latest NTF data, the Philippines has administered 110,089,619 doses of Covid-19 vaccinations across the country, with 57,254,482 doses administered as first doses, 50,627,196 doses administered as second doses, and 2,207,941 doses administered as booster shots.

“In terms of pagbo-booster, we’re still a little behind. Simultaneously, kailangan po natin hanapin at i-vaccinate ang 2.5 million unvaccinated seniors (We are still taking our time injecting booster doses.) Simultaneously, we must locate and vaccinate the 2.5 million unvaccinated seniors) “Galvez made a point.
