At Level 3 on January 7-15, Laguna was on the edge of a cliff.

Malacanang said Wednesday night that Laguna will be under a higher Alert Level 3 from January 7 to January 15. This is because there has been a big rise in Covid-19 cases.

A subgroup of the Inter-Agency Task Force called the Data Analytics Working Group made a recommendation to raise the alert level for Laguna to Level 3 because there has been a rise in Covid-19 cases in the province. “The IATF approved this recommendation last night, January 5, 2022,” acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said in a statement.

December 31, 2021, was a bad day for Metro Manila. The IATF raised the alert level there to Alert Level 3 until January 15.

Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal will join Metro Manila as areas under Alert Level 3 until January 15. The IATF made the announcement on January 4.

Under Alert Level 3, some activities will be allowed if employees are fully vaccinated. Under this level, a 30 percent indoor venue capacity and 50 percent outdoor venue capacity will be allowed for some activities.

People will be able to take basic education classes face-to-face or in-person, but they won’t be able to go to funfairs, carnivals, amusement parks for kids, or places where people sing or play wind instruments in front of people. People who don’t live in the same house will also be banned from going to places where people don’t live together.

There were 10,775 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, the most in a single day since Oct. 10, 2021. This was the highest single-day total since then.

Out of 44,643 tests, 31.7 percent came back positive. This is way above the 5% threshold set by the World Health Organization, so it’s not good news (WHO).

Omicron variant: The country now has 14 cases of the variant, three of which are from inside the country and 11 that came from other places.

In the past, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said “Omicron has already reached our communities.”

Tuesday, the WHO said it was getting a lot more evidence that the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is affecting the upper respiratory tract and causing milder symptoms than other Covid-19 variants, like Covid-19-O.

It has spread quickly since the new variant was first found in November, according to WHO data. At least 128 countries have now had the new strain of HIV.
