The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Thursday that it will set aside PHP1 billion for cash assistance to workers who will be displaced due to the harsher Alert Level 3 implementation.

Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said monies for financial aid under the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program were being prepared (CAMP).

“DOLE would be giving PHP1 billion for the workers in exceptional circumstances that would require financial help under CAMP,” she said in a Laging Handa briefing.

The CAMP is a one-time PHP5,000 financial aid program for affected private-sector workers.

The more severe Alert Level 3, which is in force in the region from January 3 to 15, is projected to affect 100,000 to 200,000 workers in Metro Manila.

Workers in the informal sector will receive emergency job support, according to Tutay.

Aside from financial assistance, she stated that those wishing to start enterprises can get help with their livelihood.

As the Alert Level 3 was increased to Metro Manila’s bordering provinces of Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna to manage rising coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, she emphasized that many workers are expected to be affected.

“Some provinces have been upgraded to Alert Level 3. It’s very likely that the number of workers affected would rise as well “Tutay remarked.
