Visitors to Intramuros who have been properly vaccinated will be rewarded.
From November 15 to 30, the Department of Tourism (DOT) announced that fully vaccinated travelers visiting a select of Intramuros’ locations will receive limited-edition Beep cards and free entry.
Individuals who have finished their Covid-19 immunization within the same time frame, according to the agency, are free to enter Fort Santiago.
In the meanwhile, fully vaccinated visitors to Fort Santiago and Baluarte San Diego will receive free Beep cards, with a daily limit of 50 people.
The Beep card is a contactless card with a saved value that can be used to pay for fares on Metro Manila’s three elevated railroads – Light Rail Transits 1 and 2 and Metro Rail Transit – as well as point-to-point buses and other public utility vehicles across the country.
Berna Romulo-Puyat, the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, is optimistic that this move will encourage more people to get their shots, noting that incentives and loosened restrictions for those who are fully vaccinated will make travel easier and help tourism destinations and businesses recover faster.
“The Department is assisting the government’s vaccination campaign in any way it can. Giving incentives is one method to persuade those who are undecided to participate in this national effort “In a statement, she stated.
Guests must display their immunization card or certificate at the door to be eligible for the discounts.
Those who have not completed their vaccination can still visit Fort Santiago and Baluarte San Diego by paying the PHP75 regular tourist entrance charge and PHP50 for the elderly, students, and those with impairments.
Since September 14, all Intramuros employees, including outsourced security and housekeeping staff, have been properly immunized, according to the Department of Transportation.
