Quiapo Church has made the schedule for the Black Nazarene feast available online.

On Sunday, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will preside over a concelebrated Mass commemorating the feast of the Black Nazarene.

The Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, also known as Quiapo Church, stated in a statement Friday that the president of the Archdiocese of Manila will lead the 4 a.m. Mass at the basilica.

Following the cardinal’s Mass, hourly Masses will be celebrated throughout the feast day’s observance.

Morning Masses will be held from 5 a.m. to noon, while afternoon Masses will begin at 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m., and continue until 9 p.m.

On Friday, from 4 a.m. to noon, and in the afternoon, at 1:30 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and until 9:00 p.m., Masses will be performed.

On Saturday, there are four morning and afternoon masses scheduled: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m.

Quiapo’s social media pages will be live streaming all Masses.

Due to the escalating incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Metro Manila, in-person Masses at the Quiapo Church will be canceled from January 7 to 9.

The meeting was fruitful.

On President Rodrigo Duterte’s request, Department of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra met with Advincula on Wednesday.

“Mr. President, I sought an audience with the Archbishop of Manila and I personally conveyed your message, and the archbishop also wanted to convey to you that he was very pleased and he was very happy that you have kept the lines of communication between the Government and the Catholic Church open,” Guevarra said during the President’s Talk to the People on Thursday night.

According to Guevarra, the archbishop also requested more security.

“He vowed to work with the government on these issues of public health.” And he just said, Mr. President, that it could be necessary for us to bolster up the law enforcement personnel that would be deployed on January 9, the Feast of the Nazarene, in particular. Because the Archbishop has stated that they may not be able to restrict or regulate the large number of devotees who may insist on approaching the Quiapo Church as close as possible,” Guevarra explained.

The President expressed gratitude to the Catholic Church for its assistance.

“God is present at all times. He’s all over the place. “All you have to do is pray for the country so you can help us,” the President added. “The procession of the Black Nazarene will not take place. God will see things your way. He is aware of the issue. So, just pray,” he added.

On January 2, a facsimile of the Black Nazarene’s picture was seen at the headquarters of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

The picture travels from Quiapo Church to allow devotees to pray and transmit devotions and intentions in the wake of Metro Manila’s tougher application of Covid-19 guidelines following the upgrade of quarantine restrictions to Alert Level 3.
