Fiestas and religious gatherings are temporarily prohibited in QC.

Due to an increase in occurrences of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, activities normally done during fiestas and other religious events have been temporarily forbidden in Quezon City.

The city government defined the forbidden actions, as well as the exceptions and instructions to be followed, in Memorandum No. 02-22, which was issued on Friday.

“Dahil inaasahan na natin ang mga pagtitipon sa mga piyesta, Chinese New Year at iba pang pagdiriwang sa mga susunod na buwan, minabuti na nating kumilos agad upang maiwasan na ang mass gatherings na posibleng pagkalat ng

Processions, parades, Santacruzan, and public events involving large crowds such as fairs, perya (funfair), variety shows, fireworks displays, Ati-Atihan, and other public performances are all prohibited.

Similarly, public games, pageants, singing or band contests, bingo, traditional fiesta games, and tournaments, or group contact sports like basketball are prohibited.

Buffets, boodle fights, and other public gatherings are prohibited, as is public drinking, including drinking outside or on streets, and group videoke or other joyful events that violate social distancing.

Drinking is permitted at home, at restaurants, and in other establishments that follow certain health regulations.

The local government also prohibits excessive merrymaking, as well as large gatherings involving multiple residences, from causing noise pollution or nuisances.

Belmonte added that modest festivities held within the home and solely among immediate family members, as well as masses and religious solemnities such as house or establishment blessings, are permitted as long as security marshals are present to ensure that minimal health procedures are followed.

Celebrations aimed at an internet audience are also permitted.

The memorandum stated that “the conduct of Dragon Dance or Lion Dance activities to observe and celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year shall be allowed provided that the same shall be held in one specified area only, roped off from the general public.”

Other health procedures, such as vaccination requirements, venue capacity, vendor conduct, separate entrance and departure points, periodic disinfection, and restrictions on the mobility of visitors who should all be properly vaccinated, were also reminded to religious institutions.

Belmonte ordered the Quezon City Police District, the city’s Law and Order Cluster, village officials, and other regulatory agencies to vigorously execute the most recent recommendations, which will be in effect throughout the city’s Alert Level 3 and higher levels.
