Iligan’s most effective hamlet in garbage management will receive a P2-million incentive.

The local administration of Iligan City will award a PHP2 million incentive to the barangay that can implement the most efficient solid waste management system.

Engr. Celso Layos, the officer-in-charge of the city government’s Solid Waste Management and Pollution Control Division, said the incentive can be used by the barangay to boost its existing solid waste management programs during the “Kapehan sa Iligan” program streamed online on Sunday.

The availability of a functional Barangay Items Recovery Facility (BMRF), a residual containment area where rubbish materials are sorted, and compost pits, according to Layos, are among the judging criteria.

“Compost pits are required in every purok (community), and each family must comply. It’s also critical that we verify in our records that no mixed waste materials were there “In vernacular, he said.

Since the competition began, Layos has noticed a tremendous improvement in the villages’ solid waste management efforts, particularly in coastal areas.
