2,579 Covid-19 recoveries have been added to the PH records, with 28,707 additional cases.

On Sunday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,579 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recoveries and 28,707 new infections.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, there have been 128,114 active cases, with overall recoveries reaching 2,785,183, or 93.9 percent of 2,965,447 infections.

There are 119,276 light cases, 2,851 moderate cases, 4,213 asymptomatic patients, 1,465 severe cases, and 309 critical cases among the active cases.

“Of the 28,707 instances recorded today, 28,512 (99 percent) happened in the last 14 days — December 27, 2021, to January 9, 2022,” according to the DOH.

The National Capital Region (NCR) had 16,803 new infections in the last two weeks, accounting for 59 percent of all new infections; Calabarzon had 5,821 new infections, accounting for 20 percent; and Central Luzon had 2,841 new infections, accounting for 10 percent.

With 15 more deaths, the death toll has risen to 52,150, accounting for 1.76 percent of all cases.

“Of the 15 deaths, 11 (73%) happened in January 2022, 1 (7%) in December 2021, 1 (7%) in October 2021, and 2 (7%) in September 2021.” (13 percent). Due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya, deaths occurred in Region 4A (3 cases or 20%), Region 6 (3 cases or 20%), Region 3 (3 cases or 20%), Region 2 (2 cases or 13%), NCR (2 cases or 13%), Region 7 (1 case or 7%), and Region 1 (1 case or 7%), according to the DOH.

COVIDKaya is a digital tool that allows healthcare professionals to collect and share information regarding Covid-19 cases.

According to the statistics from January 7, around 44 percent of the 77,479 people who were tested for Covid-19 were positive.

“One hundred thirty-five duplicates were removed from the total case count,” the DOH said, adding that “116 of them are recoveries.”

Meanwhile, after validation, three cases originally categorized as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities.

On January 7, all laboratories were operational, however, 14 of them were unable to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on statistics from the previous 14 days, the 14 laboratories are responsible for 5.1 percent of samples examined and 5.7 percent of positive persons, according to the DOH.

Patients with Covid-19 have used 35 percent of 3,400 ICU beds, 39 percent of 19,600 isolation beds, 38 percent of 13,200 ward beds, and 18 percent of 3,000 ventilators nationwide to date.

In the meanwhile, the NCR has 52 percent of the 1,100 ICU beds, 50 percent of the 4,700 isolation beds, 65 percent of the 4,600 ward beds, and 26 percent of the 1,000 ventilators dedicated to Covid-19 patients.
