There will be no increase in the Alert Level in the National Capital Region, according to mayors.

Despite an increase in Covid-19 infections, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) has opted to keep the National Capital Region (NCR) on Alert Level 3, citing enough limitations in place and just a minor increase in the region’s healthcare utilization rate (HCUR).

In a virtual press conference on Monday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. said the MMC β€” made up of the 17 mayors of the National Capital Region β€” agreed to keep the current restrictions in place following a meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) on Friday.

“For the time being, the mayors do not believe it is necessary to move to Alert Level 4,” Abalos added.

He mentioned the present prohibitions against the unvaccinated, who account for around 85% of people with severe and catastrophic Covid-19 symptoms, as well as 93 percent of mortality.

“This was created specifically to safeguard those who had not been vaccinated.” “Nakita naman natin na karamihan ng apektado pagdating sa fatality at severity ay ang mga unvaccinated (We can see that the unvaccinated are the ones who are most afflicted in terms of mortality and severity),” Abalos added.

There will be no lockdown.

Last week’s suspicions regarding an anticipated harsh lockdown were debunked by the MMDA declaration.

The false information came from two audio recordings in which the public was advised to stock up on food and other necessities since the government was planning to reintroduce the tightest quarantine measures.

“The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has begun tracing these distributors of false information and will arrest them,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said in a text message to reporters.

“In respect to the cybercrime law, they will be charged with, among other things, unlawful use of publication and unlawful speeches under the Revised Penal Code. To avoid anxiety, panic buying, and hoarding of necessary items, I ask that netizens refrain from distributing these audio clips “Added he.

Cases that are not severe

According to Abalos, most breakthrough infections or infections among the vaccinated display minor symptoms or are asymptomatic, citing data from the Department of Health (DOH).

“‘Yung impact, ganun kalaki hindi.” It’s just asymptomatic karamihan, and it’s really minor. However, consider the impact on individuals who have not been vaccinated. (The effect isn’t as strong as it appears.) The majority of cases are asymptomatic or extremely mild. However, consider the impact on individuals who have not been vaccinated. It’s excessive),” Abalos stated.

He did say, however, that the HCUR in NCR on January 8 and 9, 2022 only showed a “slight increase” and is still within the Alert Level 3 parameters.

According to DOH data, 51 percent of ICU beds were filled on January 8 and 52 percent on January 9, isolation beds declined from 51 percent to 50 percent, ward beds grew from 62 percent to 65 percent, and ventilator usage decreased from 27 percent to 26 percent.

“We are constantly monitoring the region’s HCUR rate, and we assure that the mayors of the NCR are prepared if the measurements indicate that Metro Manila should be elevated to alert level 4,” Abalos added.

Furthermore, he stated that the MMDA has observed reduced traffic on the roads and fewer people in malls.

To avoid hospital congestion, he urged the people to continue to regulate outdoor activities and seek medical advice via telemedicine.

“We’ll need everyone’s help. Let us continue to follow the DOH’s rules and adhere to minimal health protocols,” Abalos added.
