Twinkle Dargani, a Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. executive, was allowed to leave the Senate on Tuesday for humanitarian reasons.

Following a petition by Dargani’s mother, Deepa Chainani, who expressed concern over her daughter’s deteriorating mental health, Senate President Vicente Sotto III granted her release.

Dargani, who was also diagnosed with Covid-19 but only had moderate symptoms, was handed over to her mother by the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms after midnight.

She and her brother, Mohit, have been jailed since November 2021 for failing to turn over documents required in an investigation into suspected expensive medical supplies acquired by the government.

The release order was approved by Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chair Richard Gordon, Majority Leader Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, and Minority Leader Senator Franklin Drilon.

After at least 46 staffers tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, the Senate building in Pasay City has been placed under lockdown this week.
