On Tuesday, infectious diseases expert-recommended parents take their children to the doctor if they have a cough, cold, or fever, which are also indications of coronavirus sickness 2019.

Dr. Ana Ong-Lim, a member of the Department of Health’s Technical Advisory Group, said it’s impossible to tell whether these symptoms are caused by Covid-19 this flu season.

“Pinakamaganda pa rin na magkaroon ng teleconsult o kaya kumusulta sa doctor para mai-evaluate, kung iyan ba ay pwedeng ipagpahinga na lang or kailangan pang mag-workup para malaman if ito nga ay Covid,” she said.

If a youngster with moderate symptoms lives in a home where there is a Covid case or adults are showing signs of the disease, the child may be “Covid-19 likely,” according to Lim.

As the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years approaches, Lim, revealed that the DOH will prioritize individuals with comorbidities for this age group, similar to the technique utilized for children aged 12 to 17.

However, if the country receives enough supply of the jabs specifically prepared for them, children in this age group — with or without comorbidity – may be vaccinated at the same time, Lim stressed.

The expected adverse events following immunization for 5- to 11-year-old children are similar to those in other age groups, according to health experts.

Fever, headache, increased blood pressure, general malaise, disorientation, rashes, and numbness at the injection site are some of the symptoms.
