The Philippine Navy and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) have signed an agreement on free skills training.

The Philippine Navy (PN) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Wednesday that will provide free skills training and certification related to the specialization of interested naval personnel as part of ongoing modernization efforts.

“TESDA is providing free skills training, evaluation, and certification to PN beneficiaries through the TESDA Technology Institutions as part of this agreement (TTIs). Construction, maintenance and repair, and information technology are among the disciplines that will be taught “Benjo Negranza, a PN official, stated Wednesday night.

Vice Adm. Adeluis Bordado, the Navy leader, and TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapea, the TESDA secretary, signed the MOA in a virtual ceremony attended by senior officials from both organizations.

TESDA will also provide technical assistance to improve the PN workforce and skills development capacities, as well as skill-related workshops, seminars, and other relevant training programs for trainers, as part of the agreement.

It is also open to PN personnel’s dependents and Navy civilian employees.

“Through this deal, TESDA is able to significantly increase the capability and competency of our Navy personnel. Through TESDA’s scholarship programs, our PN will be able to study or develop their abilities. Navy personnel and their dependents will be able to take advantage of free skill training in the fields of information and communication technology and construction “Lapea stated.

He also praised the PN for initiating this project and working with them to make this collaboration feasible.

Meanwhile, Bordado stated that the alliance will assist PN workers in improving their technical skills.

“The success of this relationship will undoubtedly benefit the Navy’s Human Capital Strategy and aid in the long-term sustainability of our force projection,” says the statement. We will continue to work toward important transition milestones as we move from a legacy Navy to a modern, multi-capable naval defense force, ready and prepared to carry out our duty of safeguarding the Philippines’ maritime rights and interests,” he added.
