President Rodrigo Duterte has urged local government units (LGUs) to draft local ordinances prohibiting unvaccinated minors from roaming the streets.

“I’m urging all local government units to consider enacting legislation imposing age limitations on kids who are permitted to visit malls,” Duterte said in a prerecorded Talk to the People broadcast late Monday night.

Children, especially those who have not yet been immunized against coronavirus illness (Covid-19), will continue to be at risk, according to Duterte.

“They cannot, without a doubt, expose youngsters under the age of 12 and those who have not yet been vaccinated to the risks of Covid-19 in public areas,” he continued.

Duterte also urged parents to keep their children away from the virus, citing a report that a two-year-old youngster tested positive for Covid-19 three days after visiting a mall.

He claimed that the government is simply concerned with the “protection” of children and ensuring that “no Filipino youngster should be contaminated with Covid-19.”
