T-bonds with a 5-year term are partially awarded by BTr.

After investors requested a high yield, the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) partially awarded the five-year Treasury bond on Tuesday.

The BTr offered PHP35 billion for the debt paper, but the auction committee granted PHP22.126 billion out of a total of PHP58.277 billion in tenders.

Debt securities’ average rate increased to 4.012 percent from 3.762 percent.

National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon told journalists over Viber that the highest bid at the auction was 4.15 percent.

“This amount is considerably above reasonable value for the security,” she said.

“Inflation will continue to decline, and the BSP (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) will be patient in allowing the economy to recover,” she said.

Last December, the rate of inflation fell for the fourth month in a row to 3.5 percent, down from 4.2 percent the month before.

Last year, average inflation was 4.5 percent, which was higher than the government’s target range of 2-4 percent.

Inflation is expected to remain within target levels this year, according to monetary authorities.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cautioned that if the Federal Reserve tightens monetary policy further, emerging markets (EMs) may see currency devaluation and capital outflows.

“Even without an IMF warning, (we) have been wary of Fed moves,” De Leon added.

“However, we take solace in (BSP) Gov(ernor) (Benjamin Diokno’s) statement (of) being patiently accommodating to promote the (economic) recovery,” she added.
