As Covid-19 infections rise, BI reduces its onsite team

Due to an increase in coronavirus infections among its personnel, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has reduced its employment by at least 30% as of Thursday.

Commissioner Jaime Morente stated in an advisory that the decreased personnel will be implemented until January 22.

The BI previously stated that its personnel is involved in 251 active cases. At the airports, 135 of them are designated.

A total of 91 people worked at the BI’s Intramuros office, with another 25 coming from other BI locations.

269 of their airport employees have been sequestered pending the results of their Covid-19 testing.

“We appreciate DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra’s consideration of our suffering and approval of our request to decrease our employment temporarily during this spike. “The huge number of BI employees who are sick with Covid-19 is having a significant impact on our operations,” Morente remarked.

According to the BI chief, he requested the approval of the DOJ chief to reduce the number of onsite staff in accordance with Malacaang guidelines.

Despite the reduced workforce, all BI offices will remain open on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Employees working offsite, according to Morente, must follow the Civil Service Commission’s standards for relevant alternative work arrangements.

On presentation of their vaccination certificate or certification, fully vaccinated clients are excluded from the Bureau’s Online Appointment System, according to the advice.

Clients who are unvaccinated or just partially vaccinated should continue to book their appointments online at http://e-services.immigration.gov.ph/.

A registration appointment is necessary for registered immigrants reporting for the Annual Report 2022.

“We ask for patience from the public as we reduce our workforce during this surge.” Our front-line workers are sick, but we’ll make sure our services continue to be delivered,” Morente added.
