Over 85% of HEI employees and 60% of students have been vaccinated: CHED

As of January 11, more than 85% of teaching and non-teaching workers in higher education institutions (HEIs) have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to Prospero de Vera III, chair of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

“Ang ating immunization rate sa higher education ay mas mataas kaysa national average, ang ginagawa nila ngayon ay mag-booster,” he said in a Laging Handa briefing.
Meanwhile, 60 percent of HEI students have been immunized against Covid-19.

HEIs that will begin their restricted face-to-face classes within the month have a vaccination percentage of 95%, according to De Vera.

“Tuluy-tuloy ang ating school-based vaccination protocol, pero ang pinagtuunan sa marami ay siguruhin na iyong booster at tutukan iyong mga medyo malayo, distance-wise ‘no,” he said.

Many HEIs have upgraded their facilities and are ready to offer limited in-person lessons, according to him, but they are still waiting for the Covid-19 outbreak to decrease.

According to the CHED, HEIs in locations designated as Alert Level 3 can begin restricted physical sessions for all degree programs by January 31.

They do, however, have the option of starting their classes later, depending on the Covid-19 situation on the ground.
