The Philippine Army is assisting in the rehabilitation of ‘Odette.’
The Philippine Army (PA) has stated that some units from its Cebu-based 53rd Engineer Brigade (53EBde) have been dispatched to assist in the continuing relief and reconstruction efforts in the Visayas villages hit by Typhoon Odette last month.
“A total of 32 teams composed of 224 Army personnel from the brigade are currently deployed to assist in clearing, rehabilitation, delivery, and distribution of relief goods in Cebu City and nearby provinces, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, and Southern Leyte,” the PA said on Thursday night in a Facebook post.
In support of this, Army commander Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. praised 53EBde’s efforts in assisting Filipino people and areas hit by “Odette.”
He claimed that this best reflected “Bayanihan,” or the attitude of communal solidarity and assisting without expecting anything in return.
“The spirit of ‘Bayanihan’ is still alive and well. Rest confident that the Philippine Army, in collaboration with national government agencies, local government units, and private sector partners, will continue to assist our typhoon-devastated countrymen “Added he.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana previously stated that 7,493 soldiers had been deployed in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga to assist in the relief efforts for “Odette.” 769 ground vehicles, including 6×6 trucks, 28 aircraft, including C-130 and C-295 transport planes, helicopters, and 27 ships are also deployed.
