PhilSys data is kept safe by regular checks and assessments.

The Philippine Statistics Authority assures that all personal information encrypted in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) is safe and secure (PSA).

Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo, PhilSys ambassadors and celebrity couple, revealed in a PSA video presentation on Friday that the national ID project is governed by the PhilSys Act of 2018 and the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

When designing the PhilSys system and process, the project’s principal implementing agencies stressed privacy, according to Guidicelli.

By “allowing the usage of its derivatives in place of the actual PSN,” the applied privacy-by-design principles, such as data minimization, proportionality, and tokenization of the PhilSys Number (PSN), will secure the permanent unique identification.

To ensure that all information is protected, the PSA is working closely with the National Privacy Commission, the National Security Council, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Registrants of PhilSys are reminded to keep your PSN confidential and not share it with anybody unless obliged by law.

The security assessment method is one of the fundamental procedures to check on PhilSys’ data protection and cybersecurity, according to the DICT.

Regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and third-party software code audits are performed on the PhilSys project.

Personal data is segregated and registration data is encrypted, all of which is totally owned and managed by the government.

The PhilSys card number, which safeguards the PSN, adds an extra layer of protection to the Philippine Identification physical card.

The internet site register.philsys.gov.ph/ can be used to access PhilSys.

A total of 50,014,382 Filipinos had completed the registration process as of December 11, 2021.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the PhilSys Act, into law in August 2018, with the goal of creating a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.

The national ID will serve as a valid evidence of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening easier.

It will also increase efficiency, particularly when interacting with government services, since people will simply have to display their PhilID during transactions.
