In the most recent antigen testing conducted by railways, 205 people were found to be negative and 23 were found to be positive.

On Friday, 23 passengers on three rail lines in the National Capital Region tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as part of a free antigen testing program for random and volunteer travelers.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) claimed on Facebook that 228 tests were given by the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR), with 205 of them giving negative results.

The DOTr added, “Passengers who test positive in the aforesaid testing shall not be permitted to travel the trains.”

Passengers must return home, isolate themselves, and contact their local Barangay Health Emergency Response Team for “appropriate care and monitoring.”

“Confirmatory RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) testing is also recommended,” the DOTr noted.

On the other hand, the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), which operates and maintains the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), will begin giving free random antigen tests on Saturday, joining the other three rail lines.

The LRMC said in a statement that its testing locations would be positioned in LRT-1 stations with a high volume of passengers on January 15 and 17, such as Edsa in Pasay, Baclaran in Paranaque, Monumento in Caloocan, and Carriedo in Manila.

The DOTr’s attempts to reduce Covid-19 infection on public transportation include free antigen tests in LRT-2, MRT-3, and PNR.
