The National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas may be moved to Alert Level 4 status, but only if the hospital bed usage rate for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients reaches 71%.

On Saturday, Acting Presidential Spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles indicated that the escalation of the quarantine classification will take into account the two-week growth rate, average daily attack rate (ADAR), and health care utilization rate, among other factors.

The ADAR is calculated by dividing the number of new cases over a given time period by the population.

As of January 13, the hospital bed utilization rate in the NCR was 60.03 percent, while intensive care unit bed utilization was 55 percent.

The classification of patients using hospital beds is also monitored by the government, he noted.
