PH has approved the use of the Novavax Covid-19 vaccination in an emergency situation.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine emergency use authorization (EUA).

During a televised public conference on Wednesday, FDA Director-General Eric Domingo remarked, “Ito po ay nag-apply sa’tin (This has applied for an EUA) a few months ago.”

The Novavax coronavirus vaccine was created using nanoparticle technology and the genetic sequence of the coronavirus. The immune system is stimulated to create antibodies when the vaccination is injected.

It is for active immunization of those aged 18 and over, according to Domingo. The Serum Institute of India Private Limited will manufacture it under the brand name Covovax.

Novavax has been found in clinical trials to have an efficacy of 89.7% against coronavirus and 100% protection against moderate and severe illness. Each dose is 0.5 mL and must be spaced by at least 21 days.

“It’s feasible na isa sa mga maaari nating magamit na bakuna towards the end of the year or sa darating na 2022,” Domingo added.

In Indonesia, Novavax acquired a EUA for Covovax early this month.
