Villages and schools in QC are finalizing the list of vaccinees in the 5-11 age group.

In preparation for the immunization scheduled for February, the Quezon City government is unifying its master list of children aged 5 to 11.

Dr. Maria Lourdes Eleria, coordinator of the QC Task Force Vax to Normal, said the municipal government is working closely with village and elementary school officials.

“We’re presently synchronizing the list of children enrolled in our schools with those included in our barangay census to determine the number of children eligible for this round of pediatric immunizations,” Eleria said in a statement on Tuesday.

Netizens are optimistic that pediatric immunization will be widely implemented soon.

“Sana nga simulan na,” says the narrator. Marami na ang gustong pabakunahan na ang kanilang mga anak na 5-11 yrs old para may proteksyon na din ang mga katawan lalo na kapag nagbalik na ang face-to-face Many parents have wanted to bring their children aged 5 to 11 to get vaccinated in order to safeguard them, especially when face-to-face sessions restart),” Facebook user Erah Jane Juaman wrote.

Another netizen was concerned about whether youngsters in that age bracket would be able to tolerate the Covid-19 vaccine, including any potential side effects.

“Kakayanin ng bata po ba kayo kakayanin ng vaccines?” ‘Wag po padalos dalos baka magaya ‘yan sa Dengvaxia ni PNoy,’ says the character. Mabuti ninyo ninyo ninyo ninyo ninyo ninyo (Are you confident that these children will be able to withstand the vaccines? Do not rush, as this could turn up like the PNoy administration’s Dengvaxia. Please double-check),” Mervic Cabigon Paden wrote.

Dengvaxia, a dengue vaccination given to kids during the late President Benigno Aquino III’s administration, is said to have killed some of the recipients.

After producer Sanofi admitted that it can induce more severe symptoms in vaccinees who have never had dengue, it was eventually permanently banned by the Department of Health.

In November of last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States recommended that children aged 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against Covid-19.

In December, the Philippines’ Food and Drug Administration followed suit, authorizing the use of lower-dosed Pfizer vaccines for children aged 5 to 11 years old because “our experts have found that the data submitted is sufficient for the approval,” according to former agency Director-General Eric Domingo.

Covid-19 instances in children have also been linked to hospitalizations, fatalities, inflammatory syndromes, and long-term consequences that can last months, according to studies.

“Using the safe and effective vaccines already authorized for use in adolescents and adults in the United States, vaccination, coupled with other preventative measures, can protect children from Covid-19.” Vaccination was roughly 91 percent effective in preventing Covid-19 among children aged 5-11 years, similar to what was reported in adult vaccine trials, according to the CDC.

The vaccine adverse effects in the younger age group were modest, self-limiting, and similar to those found in adults in clinical trials, with the most prevalent side effect being a painful arm.

In a previous interview, Mayor Joy Belmonte said, “Finally, our younger children will be given the opportunity to receive the protection they so desperately need in order to experience some kind of normalcy in their lives after having been cooped up for so long inside their houses to avoid the risk of infection.”
