The BI has extended the cancellation of NAIA personnel’s leaves until January 31

The order prohibiting staff at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from taking a vacation has been extended by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) till the end of January.

“No leave applications will be reviewed or approved during this period, and all filed leaves are hereby canceled to guarantee that we have adequate people to support the traveling public,” BI Port Operations Division (POD) chief Carlos Capulong said in a statement on Tuesday.

The order, which went into effect on December 16th, just before the Christmas season, expired on January 15th.

The decision was given, according to Capulong, to guarantee that the BI’s airport operations are not affected by the rising number of Covid-19 cases among its workers.

A total of 138 BI-POD staff had tested positive for the virus as of Monday.

A total of 129 staff are still under quarantine awaiting the results of their swab tests. 99 other employees, on the other hand, tested negative and have returned to work.

Due to an increase in infections in bureau offices, Commissioner Jaime Morente issued a piece of advice last week reducing the BI’s onsite workforce capacity to 30%.
