It’s too soon to say Covid- In the National Capital Region, 19 cases are on the decline: DOH

A health official stated Tuesday that it is too early to assess whether the number of new Covid-19 infections in the National Capital Region (NCR) is declining.

In a television interview, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire denied confirming the assertion made over the weekend by OCTA Research Group that infections in the region were slowing down due to a drop in the number of new cases.

NCR’s growth rate is now -7 percent, up from -1 percent on Sunday, according to the OCTA Research Group.

The disparity in daily statistics, according to Vergeire, could be due to a variety of factors, including as laboratory submissions. On a weekly basis, the Department of Health examines the disparity in data.

“Kapag tiningnan natin, talaga namang nakikita natin na medyo may pagbagal na dahil noong nag-umpisa po tayo ng sitwasyon sa Omicron, ang ating case doubling time was barely two days, ibig sabihin mabilis ang pagdami ng kaso (If we When the Omicron crisis began, our case doubling time was only two days),” she explained.

In the NCR, the current case doubling time is four days.

On the other hand, according to Vergeire, the number of new cases reported daily is still high, implying that ongoing caution and interventions are required to keep the number of cases from rising.

“As a result, it’s still too early to declare and conclude that cases are already falling,” she noted.

On Monday, the NCR recorded 13,543 instances, down from 15,959 on Sunday and 18,422 on Saturday.
