On Friday, a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) official urged the public to follow the Health Department’s advice on the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine dose regimen in order to avoid adverse effects.

“The DOH has repeatedly stated that the proper regimen and dosing intervals must be followed. Giving the second dose with a different vaccine brand is only permitted in rare circumstances, such as if the person developed an allergy after the second dose. This can only be done after a doctor’s evaluation “In a public briefing, DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara stated.

According to reports, health officials are looking into the case of a man who received two doses of different Covid-19 vaccine brands on the same day.

“We encourage the public to follow DOH advice so that adverse effects can be avoided,” Guevara said.

Meanwhile, Guevara reported that the Food and Drug Administration had already approved the Covid-19 vaccines mix and match clinical trial. Recruitment began on November 17 at the Marikina City trial site.

Guevara claims that because the country has already begun giving booster shots to healthcare workers, he will be able to collect more data for the mix and match study.

“Other countries are also conducting research on the use of different brands of Covid-19 vaccines in order to find answers. They want to see how effective a booster shot is in improving their immune response. They want to know if there will be any new infections “She elaborated.

These data, as well as the local study, will be used by the DOH to update their booster interval recommendations, among other things.

Other countries are already giving their citizens booster shots. According to Guevara, a DOST review revealed that antibody levels had increased among those who received booster doses.

“Data on the relationship between antibody levels and Covid-19 protection are still being compiled. International organizations such as the World Health Organization, as well as local vaccine and medical experts, are thoroughly reviewing this “Guevara explained.
