The Department of Education (DepEd) has encouraged employees and students to take part in the national government’s immunization push, which has now expanded to include children.

“Vaccination is a critical component of protecting our communities and children against the hazards posed by Covid-19. We can continue to implement our safe-return-to-schools programs while helping our economy recover with greater protection for our stakeholders,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said. “DepEd will continue to be a part of our government’s whole-of-nation approach against Covid-19, alongside our teachers and students.”

The department has urged its field offices and schools to work with their local government units on a continuous immunization campaign for young children and education front-line workers.

Minors aged 12-17 years old will be able to have their coronavirus injections starting in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Briones also urged teachers and non-teaching staff to get their booster vaccinations as soon as they were eligible.

“We are reminding our people and offices not to wait,” she said, noting that local government units are already vaccinating and administering Covid-19 vaccines to their constituents.

In the meanwhile, the department stated that existing arrangements for using schools as immunization venues will be utilized.

It is strongly suggested that schools that were previously employed as immunization locations reopen for pediatric vaccination.
