Comelec has more time to prepare for unexpected events because of the early publishing.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday that the printing of official ballots for this year’s elections began “far earlier” than the schedule for a similar procedure in 2019.

“We are pleased that we began printing in the second half of January, which is substantially sooner than in 2019 when printing began in February.” During the live-streamed printing activities at the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City, Comelec printing committee vice-chair Helen Aguila-Flores said, “We’re hoping with this early start or timely start, we may have a buffer for possible complications.”

At the same time, she stated that the printing of the over 67 million ballots should be completed by the third week of April.

“However, our goal is to have all official ballots printed by April 21,” Flores stated.

Last Thursday, the polling organization began printing approximately 60,000 local absentee voting (LAV) ballots.

They’ve also finished printing approximately 79,000 votes for overseas voters and approximately 86,000 ballots for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

“Official ballots are now being printed. Actually, we’re on our fourth day today because we successfully started printing the LAV manual vote on January 20 and the abroad manual ballot on January 21. We started printing AES (automatic election system) ballots for the BARMM yesterday (Sunday),” she noted.

For the May 2022 elections, the Comelec will produce a total of 67,442,714 ballots.

There will be 65,745,512 ballots printed for local voting and 1,697,202 votes printed for foreign voting.
