PRRD is pleased with the completion of the airport and seaport projects in GenSan.
President Rodrigo Duterte is pleased with the completion of airport and seaport projects that will help General Santos City’s economy.
He praised the Department of Transportation (DOTr) as he led an inspection of two development projects, the newly built General Santos Airport and the Port Operations Building (POB) Complex of the Port of General Santos in Makar Wharf.
“I am delighted to be here today to inspect the airport development projects in General Santos City.” “I applaud the DOTR for completing these development projects on time, despite the challenges of the current pandemic,” he said in his speech.
Mindanao’s key gateway, according to Duterte, is another significant milestone in his administration’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program aimed at improving travel and mobility and stimulating economic activity.
“The initiative comes at a critical juncture, as General Santos City assumes the role of gateway to Soccsksargen and the rest of Mindanao.” Its completion will greatly improve our interconnectivity and revitalize Southern Mindanao’s agro-industrial and eco-tourism prospects,” he added.
He praised the wharf’s new POB Complex and other support facilities, which have increased capacity to ferry cargo and accommodate those who may wish to visit the province and conduct business in the city.
“I eagerly await the outcomes of the city’s airport and wharf improvements, which will spur economic growth and boost transportation economic activities.” These infrastructure projects will undoubtedly have a significant impact not only on the economy of Mindanao, but also on the rest of the country,” he added.
Duterte also expressed his hope that the upgraded airport will create more job opportunities through business establishment construction and revitalize the economy through improved accessibility and mobility of goods and people.
Meanwhile, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering and completing long-term development projects that will improve a wide range of growth opportunities for Filipinos even after he leaves office.
“Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, our government remains committed to improving the lives of our citizens by completing our projects efficiently and on time.” Let me continue to work in solidarity as we overcome our current challenges and build a better country for future generations of Filipinos,” he said.
The larger passenger terminal building at General Santos Airport can now accommodate at least 2 million passengers per year, nearly doubling its pre-pandemic annual passenger capacity of 1.05 million.
The airport upgrade, which began in 2018, is one of the agency’s and the national government’s top priorities in Mindanao.
In comparison to its predecessor, the POB Complex in Makar Port is expected to facilitate the movement of vessels, cargo, and other port-related traffic.
The Makar Port serves as the primary exit point for goods shipped from South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City or Region 12.
