The Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to hold three presidential and vice-presidential debates, with all contenders for these positions expected to attend.

“We’re getting ready for the discussion.” We see a lot of interest in situations where candidates will face off against one other, and we’d like to provide them that chance in a Comelec-sanctioned event that everyone can attend,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a virtual forum on Wednesday.

According to Jimenez, each presidential and vice-presidential candidate will have one debate, which will begin next month.

“When we have the debates, we expect a lot of candidates to show up. Please keep an eye out for arguments in February’s fourth week, as well as in March and April. He stated that there would be one discussion per month to cover the full campaign time.

He stated that the events will be scheduled in order.

“It’ll be a back-to-back situation.” Today is the (presidential) election (debate). (We’ll have the) vice-presidential debate tomorrow. That’s a total of three times. The media is welcome to participate. Every member of the media will be invited to each debate. “They may broadcast it all at once on the air,” Jimenez remarked.

The polling body’s spokeswoman also stated that if a contender does not show up for the debates, the podium allotted to him or she will be empty.

“If a candidate does not show up, their podium will be left empty. As a result, we’ll make a huge deal about their absence. That might be a major motivator for a campaigner to really show up. “As a result, we were quite certain that they’d show up,” he said.

The debates will be held in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, according to Jimenez.

On the other side, he stated that a raffle will be held this week to choose national candidates’ e-rally slots.

“A raffle will be held at Comelec on January 28 to distribute e-rally slots. Candidates are usually given a platform to speak on, but it must be scheduled. The candidates’ schedules will be separated and announced on January 28. So they’re already set up for e-rallies by February 8 (the start of the campaign period for national candidates),” he said.

E-rallies will be held three hours per night, with each contender having a slot, according to Jimenez.

“There will be three candidates for President, each with ten minutes to speak. The same can be said about VP. It’ll be a revolving door. The next three will have their opportunity the next day, and so on until the campaign is over. It will be a regular way for them to communicate with voters. Senators will be given five minutes to speak, while party-list candidates will be granted the same amount of time. Candidates are allowed to speak every night. The Comelec official continued, “We hope we were able to present this seven days a week.”

The poll organization had already launched the Campaign S.A.F.E. COMELEC e-Rally Channel on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/COMELECeRallyChannel), which will provide e-rally airtime to all national candidates.

The live streaming will commence on February 8, the first day of the national candidates’ 90-day campaign season.
