As the stock market reopens, job growth is expected.

JobStreet, an online employment portal, has seen a 27 percent uptick in job posts in 2021, indicating that the pandemic has passed.

According to JobStreet Country Manager Philip Gioca, from January to September last year, there were 75,000 daily job ads, up from 59,000 daily job postings in 2020.

According to Gioca, job listings on the web marketplace are presently at 75% of pre-pandemic levels.

“You’d regard (that) increase as a signal that jobs are expanding and the market is reopening,” he continued.

Customer service with 101,627 jobs in 2021, followed by education with 83,414 jobs, information technology/computer software with 53,766, finance-general/cost accounting with 43,797 jobs, and clerical administrative support with 42,490 jobs.

Healthcareโ€“nurse/medical support and assistant, marketing/business development, human resources, sales-retail/general, and banking/financial services rounded out the top ten job positions filled last year.

Employers in the IT/computer software industry almost doubled the number of hires in 2021 compared to 2020.

Last year, JobStreet logged over 105 million job searches, according to Gioca.

“It merely goes to show you that job-seeking activity was really high in 2021.” As a result of the disturbances, many people were actively seeking employment in 2021,” he noted.

According to him, job searches for blue-collar occupations such as housekeeper, driver, dispatch, and messenger have increased by 55 percent, accounting for the largest growth in job searches on JobStreet.

Jobs in food, beverage, and restaurant service have increased by 54 percent; hotel management and tourism services have increased by 46 percent; retail and general sales have increased by 42 percent; architecture and interior design have increased by 42 percent; personal care, beauty, and fitness services have increased by 39 percent; healthcareโ€“pharmacy has increased by 37 percent; clerical/administrative support has increased by 36 percent; mechanical and automotive engineering has increased by 36 percent; and civil, structural, and environmental engineering have increased by 36 percent.

“Most of them were actually displaced as a result of the pandemic, and the vast majority of these people would be employed in small and medium-sized businesses.” In 2021, our SMEs were the most affected and afflicted by the pandemic, according to Gioca.

Earlier this week, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, who also chairs the Task Force Group on Economic Recovery-National Employment Recovery Strategy (TGER-NERS), stated the government aims to reduce unemployment to 5 to 5.5 percent, close to pre-pandemic levels.

The country’s unemployment rate fell to 6.5 percent in November 2021, down from 17.6 percent at the peak of the pandemic in April 2020.

Lopez went on to say that limits on mobility play a big role in job loss and recovery.
