The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has released approximately PHP2.2 billion in medical aid to a total of 272,390 patient petitions across the country in 2021, despite the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

According to the agency’s 2021 accomplishment report, it has released PHP1.3 billion in funds for confinement cases involving 134,033 patients, PHP628.8 million for dialysis injection cases involving 107,891 patients, PHP236 million for chemotherapy cases involving 25,693 patients, and PHP18.3 million for hemodialysis cases involving 2,397 patients.

Meanwhile, 293 hemophilia patients received PHP2.6 million in aid, while 2,083 post-transplant patients received PHP19.8 million in aid.

The National Capital Region (NCR), Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon), and Region 6 (Calabarzon) received the majority of the requests for assistance (Western Visayas).

The monies were made available under the agency’s Medical Access Program (MAP), which aims to meet the medical requirements of Filipinos across the country, notably in the areas of hospitalization, chemotherapy, dialysis, and post-transplant drugs. Revenues from PCSO games are used to fund the program.

According to PCSO general manager Royina Garma, the PCSO was able to assist patients in need of guarantee letters, chemotherapy, dialysis, and drugs for hemophilia and post-transplantation.

Meanwhile, Garma reassured the public that the PCSO will make every effort and investigate all options to increase money in order to continue to fund programs for Filipinos.
