Guanzon challenges the counsel for the BBM party to argue the DQ vote disclosure.

Following the announcement of her vote in the disqualification case against former legislator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., (BBM), Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon challenged the counsel of the BBM to a debate on Friday.

“I challenge George Briones of the BBM’s Partido Federal to a discussion on television.” He should agree if he believes he is smarter than me. An administrative complaint against a Commissioner is beyond the jurisdiction of the Commission En Banc @COMELEC. I am an officer who can be impeached. You should all study more. Let’s have a debate on TV,” Guanzon wrote on Twitter.

Guanzon stated that she may file a contempt charge against the party for threatening her.

“Does BBM realize that while his case is underway, Partido Federal is threatening me, the Presiding Commissioner?” “Perhaps I’ll hold you in contempt and throw you in the Manila municipal jail,” she said.

This occurred as the party appealed for Guanzon’s disbarment and retirement benefits to be forfeited for allegedly “prematurely and illegally” announcing her vote in favor of the former senator’s disqualification charges.

Guanzon, along with chairperson Sheriff Abas and fellow Commissioner Antonio Kho Jr., will leave the Comelec on February 2.

Guanzon, the First Division’s Presiding Commissioner, announced on Thursday that she voted to disqualify Marcos based on her dissenting view in the case.

Commissioners Marlon Casquejo and Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio, the case’s ponente, are the other members of the First Division.

Bonifacio Ilagan, among others, Akbayan and Abubakar Mangelen, filed the three disqualification cases that were merged.

Briones, on the other hand, denied the poll body’s offer, citing their fraternity’s Code of Action.

“Since Commissioner Rowena Guanzon revealed that I am a Sigma Rho Fraternity brother, I’ve been on a mission to find out who I am. I politely decline her invitation to participate in a debate with her. For I am a staunch believer in our Code of Action, which states, “to give due respect, if not love, to a Sister Deltan,” according to a statement.
