In typhoon-affected areas, NegOcc is deploying veterinarian rehabilitation operations.

The province government of Negros Occidental has launched a month-long veterinary relief and rehabilitation mission in disaster-affected areas in an effort to recoup the PHP742-million loss to the local animal business caused by Typhoon Odette.

“The recent disaster wreaked havoc on the cattle and poultry industries, hurting both the backyard and commercial sectors,” the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), led by Dr. Renante Decena, said in a statement on Thursday.

The operation, which began on Wednesday in Kabankalan City’s Barangays Orong and Camingawan, aims to assist injured animals in recovering and returning to their optimal and productive performance in order to meet the potential post-typhoon scarcity of livestock and poultry products.

The PVO team will visit Barangays Vista Alegre and Delisioso in Ilog town on Friday.

They will also go to Sipalay and Himamaylan, as well as the municipalities of Ilog, Hinobaan, Cauayan, Candoni, Binalbagan, Isabela, Hinigaran, Moises Padilla, and La Castellana in February.

Consultation, treatment, deworming, feeds, veterinary medications and vitamin supplements, and laboratory testing for animals are among the services provided.

Dead animals, destroyed feeds and other farm supplies, structural damage to animal housing, and other farm facilities are among the losses experienced by the animal business across the province.

The veterinary relief and rehabilitation mission is being carried out in collaboration with the Iloilo-Bacolod Association of Veterinary Sales Representatives, Negros Association of Animal Feed and Drug Supplies, and the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association Western Visayas-B Chapter.
