National vaccination days diminish the aim; a new 3-day drive is planned.

Due to a shortage of ancillary supplies, particularly syringes for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, and other logistical challenges, the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 and the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) adjusted their target vaccination output for the National Vaccination Days.

Following a series of consultations with local chief executives of provinces, cities, and municipalities nationwide, as well as resource management and logistics teams, the NTF and NVOC decided to administer nine million jabs or a daily national throughput target of three million doses during the “Bayanihan Bakunahan” from November 29 to December 1.

The NTF and NVOC have scheduled another three-day immunization drive from December 15 to 17 in order to reach their objective of entirely inoculating 54 million Filipinos by the end of the year.

According to a joint statement issued by the NTF and the NVOC on Saturday, the Department of Health anticipated the volume requirement for syringes specifically for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, but the scheduled shipment of procured supplies made through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has been delayed due to the current global shortage.

“Since we all know, adequate supplemental supplies for each of the vaccine brands are critical in the conduct of the National Vaccination Days, as a substantial portion of those who will be vaccinated will be the younger population, or those aged 12 to 17 years old,” the statement stated.

Minors can receive either Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

For health care workers, senior folks, and immunocompromised patients, the US-made products are also utilized as booster shots and third doses.

The “Bayanihan Bakunahan” will focus on raising first-dose coverage to 70% and booster shots, while the activities from December 15 to 17 will administer second doses and more booster shots.

“The NTF and NVOC, together with our partners from all levels of government and the private sector, are committed to achieving our goal, which is to have a better, merrier, and happier Christmas,” NTF chief Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and Presidential Adviser for Covid-19 Response and NTF deputy chief Secretary Vince Dizon said in a joint statement. “Once again, we urge everyone to get vaccinated and protect their families and loved ones.”
