As in-person sessions approach, students are being warned about street crimes.

As it prepares for a pilot implementation of face-to-face classrooms in Metro Manila starting Dec. 6, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has advised students and parents to be watchful against persistent street crimes in the area of schools.

PNP commander Gen. Dionardo Carlos directed that attention be focused on 28 schools in the NCR that the Department of Education (DepEd) is eyeing as a pilot batch for the resumption of in-person education.

“The PNP will secure a final list of participating schools so that I can order the chiefs of police in those districts to organize for their deployment to maintain security in these school grounds,” Carlos said in a statement released on Saturday.

Carlos stated that the Pangasinan event, in which several police officers were photographed inside a classroom with long weapons on the first day of physical education, should not be repeated.

“We shall realize that schools are peaceful zones.” “A lot of work has gone into educating our employees about this policy,” he said.

PNP, he claims, will keep children and other school stakeholders safe.

Police will only have a limited presence outside the school compounds as a result of this, he noted, unless in crises when school administration request police assistance.

He also pledged PNP assistance to local governments and health authorities in implementing minimum public health requirements in school buildings.
