Most infected Bureau of Immigration (BI) employees have returned to work and are prepared for the flood of visitors once the quarantine requirement for those who have been fully vaccinated is lifted on February 10 for those who have been fully vaccinated.

Returning overseas Filipinos (ROF) will be exempt from quarantine beginning Tuesday if they have received all Covid-19 vaccination doses and have a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result obtained within 48 hours of leaving their home country.

As of Monday, 401 BI employees had recovered from Covid-19, the majority of them are assigned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Only 23 immigration agents stationed at airports remain in detention.

In a statement released on Tuesday, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said, “We are ready and have the available manpower to meet this predicted rise in passenger volume in our airports.”

Beginning February 10, fully vaccinated travelers from visa-free countries will no longer be required to quarantine, according to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ latest resolution.

They must have documentation of vaccination and a negative RT-PCR test result, much like ROF.

The list of countries that do not require a visa may be found at dfa.gov.ph/list-of-countries-for-21-day-visa.

In a separate statement, Carlos Capulong, the BI port operations chief, said that if the need arises, a reserve team of immigration officers will be called in to supplement and help their front-line officers at the airport.
