The Covid-19 task force of the national government is still finalizing the conditions for deescalating Metro Manila to the lowest Alert Level 1, Malacanang said on Monday.

After independent analytics firm OCTA research claimed key pandemic indicators show Metro Manila is ready for Alert Level 1 as long as the downward trend of Covid-19 infections is maintained, Cabinet Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles made the remark.

Nograles stressed the importance of remaining attentive in the face of the Omicron form of Covid-19’s threat.

“We’re also keeping an eye on Omicron and all of these other developments around the world, so I can’t really say when we’ll be able to finalize the specifications.” “It’s a never-ending process,” he continued.

Until the end of November, Metro Manila is under Alert Level 2.

The policy of Four Doors

Meanwhile, Nograles stated that the national government is preparing for the worst-case situation if the number of Covid-19 cases increases again.

“Hindi po makapasok yung Omicron sa bansa at anumang variation (We have activated our Four-Door Policy to prevent the Omicron version from entering the country),” he stated. “We have to be ready for the worst-case scenario,” says the group.

Border control, active surveillance, including test and trace, early isolation and treatment of all those who test positive, and the Covid-19 vaccine program are all part of the Four-Door Policy.

The IATF revised its red list of areas at “high risk” of Covid-19 on Sunday, imposing travel restrictions on seven more countries.

Along with South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique, the government added Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy to the red list, which will remain in force until December 15.

The Omicron form of Covid-19 was deemed “of concern” by the World Health Organization on Friday.

It was first reported to the WHO on November 24 by South Africa, and it has since been found in Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Israel.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 2,831,807 Covid-19 instances as of November 28. Around 2.7 million of these are recoveries, whereas 48,361 are deaths.

On Nov. 16, the country saw 849 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest number of new Covid-19 cases this month. On Sunday, the country saw less than 1,000 daily cases of Covid-19 for the fifth day in a row.
