The ‘red list’ tag is contingent on local Omicron variant transmission.

Malacanang stated on Monday that countries, jurisdictions, and territories are only added to the Philippines’ “red list” once they have announced local transmission for new Covid-19 variations.

In the midst of calls for Hong Kong to be added to a “red list” of places at high risk of Covid-19 infection, Cabinet Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles claimed the city has yet to report a case of local transmission.

“With a sense of urgency, we’re moving forward…

“Ang napagdesisyunan natin sa IATF yung pagre-redlist ng mga nations will be depending kung mayroon nang local case ng Omicron doon sa bansa na’yun,” Nograles said in a Palace press conference.

Because Hong Kong has only confirmed imported infections as of Sunday, it will stay on the “yellow” list of destinations with a moderate risk of Covid-19 infection, according to him.

“Kung imported case siya (If it’s an imported case), we have the option of keeping the country’s status, whether yellow or green,” he explained.

Covid-19 infection is rare in “green” countries, jurisdictions, and territories.

However, based on destination monitoring activities, genome sequencing, and detection of cases of the Omicron variation, Nograles warned the risk classification could change.

“However, kung sa tingin ng IATF at mga eksperto natin, hindi ganun kaganda ang nakikita natin na surveillance activities na ginagawa dun sa bansang ‘yun at hindi ganun kaganda at hindi tayo ganun kaganda at hindi tayo

He stated that safeguards and rules are in place to prevent the Omicron variety from spreading.

“We’ll take things one at a time…

This isn’t the first time we’ve had to deal with anything like this. “Yung IATF ay agad naman kung kinakailangan magconvene at agad naman magbigay ng new policy directives, actions ay agad naman natin ginagawa,” he said.

Meanwhile, he urged citizens to follow the government’s Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Test-Reintegrate (PDITR) plan and adhere to minimal public health standards.

“Ano ba ang maiaambag ng publiko (How can the general public assist)?” “You may assist us in the government battle this Omicron version by using Yung PDITR plus immunization,” he continued.

Dr. Tony Leachon, a former adviser to the National Task Force Against Covid-19, said on Sunday that the government must decide “with a feeling of urgency” on travel restrictions for Hong Kong to avoid the Omicron variant from entering the country.

“Because of Hong Kong’s close proximity to our coastlines, it would be appropriate for us to suspend inbound travelers, particularly from that country.” “It’s also worth noting the number of overseas contract workers who are returning home for the holidays,” Leachon said.

As of 2019, Hong Kong has an estimated 240,000 overseas Filipino employees.

The Omicron variety was first discovered in Botswana, in southern Africa, and has since been found in South Africa, Israel, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong.
