Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the country’s vaccine czar, said Thursday that a more intensive Covid-19 immunization program is critical to the country’s smooth transition from a pandemic to an endemic approach to Covid-19.

“We can’t have a [safe] transition from pandemic to endemic if no one is vaccinated,” Galvez, who is also the head of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, stated during the launch of “Resbakuna sa Botika” in Bacolod City.

Galvez noted a recent study by various health experts throughout the world that found unvaccinated people are more likely to contain virus mutations.

Galvez claims that people who received the booster dosages, based on the recommendations of Israeli doctors, have gained further protection against the deadly sickness, despite the presence of new Covid-19 strains.

“According to science, as specialists have stated, we need the third dose or boosters so that we may have further protection, and that any mutations or variants that are coming in, ay talaga pong ligtas tayo (we are really safe),” he said.

Vince Dizon, the president’s adviser on Covid-19 response, had stated that the NTF is already working on a pandemic escape strategy.

Dizon, who is also the NTF deputy chief, predicted that the transition will begin this month.

“I believe the transition will begin in February. We just need to get the number of cases down to where they were late last year, below 1,000 a day, and we’ll be able to start transitioning from a pandemic to an endemic framework “On Wednesday, Dizon said in an interview with the Kapihan sa Manila Bay internet forum.

According to the most recent data from the National Covid-19 vaccination dashboard, the Philippines has administered 127,570,820 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, with 59,342,837 Filipinos now fully vaccinated, including those who received the single-dose Janssen vaccine, and 7,704,701 eligible individuals receiving additional protection or booster shots.
