If more people are vaccinated, there is no need for a mandatory vaccination law.

Malacanang stated on Tuesday that if more individuals voluntarily get vaccinated against the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19), a new law requiring vaccination may not be necessary.

After President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Monday night that he supports obligatory Covid-19 vaccination, Cabinet Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles made this remark.

While the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) is currently debating whether vaccination should be mandated, Nograles said the Palace is encouraged by the public’s support during the ceremonial vaccine rollout on the first day of the country’s national vaccination drive “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” in Antipolo City.

According to the Nationwide Task Force Against Covid-19, 2.55 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were given out during the government’s three-day national immunization drive, which started on Monday.

Nograles expressed confidence that the high turnout at Monday’s vaccination push will continue even beyond the event’s final day on December 1.

“Nakikita natin ang tuloy-tuloy itong extensive immunization,” says the author (We can see that this massive vaccination is picking up). We’re seeing 1 million vaccinees per day, and then ngayon dahil sa three-day massive vaccination rollout natin, itong Bayanihan, Bakunahan, ang target natin ay 3 million per day, then hopefully there won’t be a need for that kung realistically on the ground e marami naman po ang nagpabakuna (and because of the three-day massive vaccination rollout nati

He did agree, however, that the IATF-EID would have to consider new Covid-19 varieties, such as the Omicron form, which might cause new devastation across the country if not regulated.

“At the end of the day, ang pagba-balance natin diyan is yung state police power plus yung public health and safety ng lahat ng ating mga kababayan,” Pangulo said. So we’re still weighing our choices at IATF (we have to strike a balance between the state’s police power and everyone’s health and safety, just like the President mentioned),” he continued.

Currently, he said, the government is working to increase public faith in the Covid-19 vaccine through Bayanihan, Bakunahan, and increased public awareness programs.

From November 29 to December 1, Bayanihan, Bakunahan wants to vaccinate roughly 9 million people in 8,000 sites throughout 16 regions nationally.

By the end of the year, the Philippines hopes to have fully vaccinated 54 million Filipinos.

Duterte backed obligatory vaccination in a televised meeting with the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 and medical experts in Malacaan Palace on Monday night but noted that adopting a law takes time.

“As a government employee who is also in control of the government’s overall operations, I might agree with the task force if they decide to make it mandatory.” “It’s for the general good,” he explained.

Rather than waiting for Congress to adopt a law, Duterte claimed the government may use its police power to force residents to acquire Covid-19 vaccines.

A higher turnout

Secretary Eduardo Ao of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is also pleased with the turnout during the statewide immunization push.

Nograles said the amount could alter if additional data from local government units (LGUs) is received, despite the fact that it is 600,000 jabs short of its 3 million targets.

“As of now, tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang paghingi namin ng report mula sa ibat-ibang (As of now, we continue to request reports from various) LGUs, so that figure may not be the final number.” “Abangan natin ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon ngayon

He also urged governmental and private sector stakeholders, as well as the general public, to do their share in persuading others to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

“We’re all in this together,” he said, adding, “so magtulungan po tayo dito (let’s support each other).”
