794K Albay residents have completed Step 2 of the PhilSys registration process.

As of February 2, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Albay announced that at least 794,075 people had completed the entry of their biometric information for national ID registration.

PSA-Albay spokesperson Cross Doreh Lee stated in an interview that the figure represented 73 percent of the province’s 1,085,367 target people for enlistment in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

At local registration facilities, the Step 2 process verifies supporting documents and collects biometrics such as iris and fingerprint scans and front-facing pictures.

PSA-Albay is already accepting walk-in clients for the PhilSy registration in several centers across the province, according to Lee.

To avoid crowding in the facilities and the spread of coronavirus disease, applications were formerly only accepted by appointment (Covid-19).

Applicants are welcome to apply as long as they have supporting documents including birth certificates and other government-issued identification, according to Lee.

“Temperature checks, proper face mask use, social distancing, and hand disinfection are all mandatory at the Registration Centers. In addition, registrants must complete the health survey form either online or on paper “she remarked

As an added precaution against Covid-19, Lee encouraged applicants to carry their own ballpen when filling out the papers.

“We place a high priority on everyone’s safety and security, which is why we clean frequently and follow correct health regulations,” she explained.

Similarly, Lee stated that government offices and commercial institutions with 60 or more staff are encouraged to apply for institutional registration.

The Bungkaras Gym in Camalig town; 3rd Floor, Daraga Public Market in Daraga; Arandurugan Hall in Guinobatan; 2nd Floor, Embarcadero de Legazpi; Barangay Victory Village; 3rd Floor, SM City Legazpi; and Ground Floor, PSA Building, Regional Government Center, all in Legazpi City, are among the PhilSys Registration Centers in Albay that accept registr

Mobile registration is also being done in barangays by PHilSys registration teams.

In Catanduanes, Jan Aizel Tura, 32, of Barangay Pangilao, San Miguel town, said she was delighted she had already obtained her national ID in an interview.

“I already have a lifetime ID, and when I apply for work, I can now provide something that is mine and proof of my existence,” she continued.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, into law in August 2018, with the goal of creating a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.

The national ID will be a valid proof of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening much easier.

It will also improve efficiency, particularly when dealing with government services, as people will only need to provide one form of identification during transactions.
