Following a large fire that broke out on the night of February 4, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) promised the Russian Embassy in Manila that it will maintain the inviolability of its facilities.

“The Department guarantees the Russian Embassy that it supports the inviolability of the mission’s facilities and its right to protection from intrusion or disturbance as established under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the department said in a statement released on Saturday.

According to the DFA, Russian Ambassador Marat Pavlov personally communicated that all of his people are safe and accounted for.

The embassy is currently taking steps to protect the integrity and security of the chancery building and its contents.

According to a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire started on the second level and quickly progressed to the second alarm.

At 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, it was proclaimed over. The fire’s cause is still being investigated.

For its part, the DFA offers assistance to the authorities in conducting a prompt inquiry into the event, in accordance with the relevant norms of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
