The AFP encourages Filipinos to commemorate the heroes who fought for the country’s independence.

Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), called on Filipinos to commemorate all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom from colonialism on Friday.

Ang kanilang kabayanihan at matapang na pakikipaglaban sa iba’t ibang pamamaraan – sa prinsipyo, dunong, salita o gawa man, ang dahilan ng kalayaang tinatamasa ng bawat Pilipino sa kasalukuyan (We remember this day not only because we attain our freedom from the invaders but for the reason for this victory — our heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the love of country. Their heroism and bravery in fighting in various forms be it in principle, wisdom, words and works, are the reasons why the Filipinos are enjoying their freedom),” Sobejana said in his message, ahead of the commemoration of the country’s 123rd Independence Day on Saturday.

Sobejana further promised the people that the nation’s warriors and defenders would continue to reinforce this freedom.

(This is why I am urging all members of the Armed Forces to continue their efforts to protect the nation’s freedom, which our forefathers fought for, so that the independence enjoyed by today’s generation will be passed on to the next.) Things may change in the next days, and the country may face significant difficulties, but we remain dedicated to fighting for a free, peaceful, and progressive Philippines),” he said.

With this year’s theme, “Kalayaan 2021: Diwa sa Pagkakaisa at Paghilom ng Bayan,” Sobejana called all Filipinos to work together to work together to eradicate the danger of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic and to liberate the country from poverty, fear, and uncertainty.

He went on to say that everyone has a role to play in protecting freedom.

(Remember that we don’t need weapons to become heroes in this war.) Discipline, friendship, patriotism, and solidarity are what we need. We shall all be great heroes in this manner, and we will be free),” Sobejana stated.
