How much is excessive?

Is it necessary for your youngster to attend football practice five days a week? Are three days sufficient? When it comes to judging how much is too much in terms of after-school activities, it is normal for parents to be perplexed.
They say that because the majority of the activities are enjoyable (in contrast to studying), youngsters will eagerly participate in these programs. However, having too much fun might make a child unwell. Here is a quick approach to determining how much is too much for your youngster.

Kindergarten: Your youngster is just starting to understand how to connect with others and is becoming accustomed to punishment. His or her after-school activities should be straightforward and uncomplicated.

At first, one or two classes each week will enough. Look for more demanding activities, such as a music program, once the child has calmed down.

Grade 1: One or two activities each week are advised, as well as play dates and playground trips. Avoid participating in competitive sports. The child is still far too young to be concerned about winning or losing. He or she requires a healthy outlet for bottled up energy after a long day at school.

For this age group, physical activity and noncompetitive sports are ideal.

Grade 2: Your youngster is old enough to express his or her preferences for activities. Sports, skating, swimming, or computers are all activities that he enjoys. Around this age, many youngsters begin lessons on a musical instrument. Allow your youngster some “alone time,” during which he can relax and do anything he wants.

Grade 3: Socialization becomes more important. Team sports are an excellent option.
Painting, drawing, and other forms of motor skill development are also beneficial. Allow the child to pursue his or her passions. However, set aside time for your family and pleasurable activities.

Grade 4: The youngster will tell you what he enjoys at this age. He must engage in activities that would increase his self-esteem. This will also help him manage stress, as social pressure is beginning to grow at this time. However, keep an eye out for the homework demon. Your child requires additional study time. It is critical that he balances his education with his other pursuits.

Grade 5: Your fifth-grader is bursting with enthusiasm and will want to accomplish everything. She or he, on the other hand, maybe able to conveniently push studies to the side. As a result, close supervision is required. One or two days should be set aside for a family time and other activities. Now is an excellent opportunity to introduce your youngster to community service.

Middle school: Keep him away from the television. Encourage him to participate in activities that will help him remember what he has learned. Encourage your teen to join activities such as the Girl/Boy Scouts, language clubs, chess clubs, and so on to boost his or her academic performance. As a general rule, 16-20 hours of increased activity per week should suffice. However, keep an eye out for signs of burnout.

The temperament of your child will largely determine what you choose for him to do and how long he should work at it. As a parent, you should keep a careful eye on your child and make decisions based on what he or she says.
