On Bonifacio Day, November 30, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) reported 186,111 passengers, the largest number in a single day since the pandemic began in March of last year.

The MRT-3 credited the record single-day ridership this year to better capacity since the epidemic prompted the rail service to cease operations until June 2020, according to a Facebook post on Wednesday.

“Ito ay resulta ng mas pinataas na passenger capacity, mas mabilis na pagbiyahe ng mga tren at pagkakaroon ng mataas na bilang ng mga running at operational na train sets sa linya,” the MRT-3 said in a statement.

According to the company, train capacity has climbed to 70%, or 276 passengers per train car, compared to 30%, or 124 passengers per train car, in February.

Since December 2020, the operational speed of MRT-3 trains has stayed around 60 kilometers per hour (kph), up from 50 kph following the successful repair and upgrade of the rail service.

It added that on average, 17 to 21 trains are moving along the MRT-3’s mainline at any given time.

It reminded passengers that despite the continuous loosening of health restrictions, some public health and safety practices remain essential.

Face masks are required, as is the prohibition of eating, drinking, and conversing on public transportation.
